As with other male mammals, a man has an X chromosome from his mother and a Y chromosome from his father. The male fetus generates testosterone, which in turn masculinizes the fetus as it develops. Testosterone also masculinizes the male at puberty. As a result, men tend to be bigger and stronger than women, with deeper voices and other differences.
