Japan is home to a large number of manufacturing, chemicals and automobile companies. The demand exists for environmental services to control pollutants, waste water treatment, clean production, recycling and recovery of waste resource. These services are supported by the government's focus on eradicating environmental hazards and pollution control to prevent instances such as Fukushima nuclear plant.

Increasing awareness on negative impact of environmental pollution levels on human and animal health, is leading to increasing government funding for pollution control and monitoring is further aiding the industry. Japan has committed to reduce its carbon emissions levels by 26% from its 2013 emission levels 18% below 1990 levels by 2030. However, with the current policies placed they might only manage to achieve 411% reduction from 1990 levels.

Major areas where there are significant opportunities for environmental consulting services to grow are waste water treatment, automobiles manufacturing, electronics manufacturing and food processing industries.

These industries drive demand for environmental consulting services in site remediation, safety assessment, and waste water management services. Opportunities also exists in hazardous waste treatment such as Fukushima nuclear disaster and other pollution remediation.
