While only BNP Paribas turned in a better fixed-income performance among French banks, Credit Agricole’s top-line and profit were below forecasts. The trading performance is a boost for Chief Executive Officer Philippe Brassac, who is finalizing a new set of targets for this summer, and comes after rivals said that conditions had further improved into April. Over the past four years, he’s reorganized the bank’s structure, sold less strategic holdings and reinforced the firm’s strength in areas such as asset management and consumer banking in Italy.
