US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday that Washington was close to resolving its differences with Mexico and Canada over steel and aluminum tariffs that have created friction among the trading partners. Mnuchin's comments came as visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland again warned that Canada was unlikely to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement so long as the tariffs -- 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum -- remained in place.
